After an MCA Venu has joined BBT Ltd., three years ago as a Trainee Software Engineer in the client server technologies. His boss Subramanyam is satisfied with the way Venu had settled into the company- he found that Venu was hard-working, cheerful and willing to help.

However, Subramanyam had noticed over the last few weeks that Venu's attitude was beginning to change. Venu complained that he found a lot of the work rather tedious and menial. He only seemed to enjoy the time spent on personal online upgradation of this skills while in office.. Subramanyam also learnt that Venu is upgrading himself on web technologies from an outside training institute. Subramanyam had hopes that Venu would stay with the firm for another five years or more and grow.

Venu had asked for a shift to web technologies in his last appraisal three months back and he was told that as there were two seniors also with the same request and they were not yet given a chance, it may not be possible to shift Venu in the next one year and he was advised to remain in the present technologies as it is the major revenue earning area for the organization.

Venu is restless. He had taken a couple of days off for an interview on the pretence that he was ill and on this particular Friday he had come into work 30 minutes late. Subramanyam decided to have a word with Venu. - his challenge is how he can make Venu align his personal ambition with organisation needs.
